Peter’s readers knew that jesus would return.

1st peter chapter 5 verse 6. 5 to the elders among you, i appeal as a fellow elder. Gives grace to the humble. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “god opposes the proud.

8 be alert and of sober mind. 6 humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of god. ( a) 7 cast all your anxiety on him.

That you care for god’s flock with all the diligence of a shepherd. 7 cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. And because wicked men must give an account to him, and therefore the gospel is preached to them also, that they may be left without excuse;

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. He lifts up the humble, therefore, humble yourselves. But many people had already died.

That is when god will judge what every person has said and done. God exalts as well as casts down. 1 peter 2:13 , submits himself also to the lord himself.

Now the elders [the overseers] which are among you i exhort, because i am also an elder [or an overseer, an older man], and i am a witness of the sufferings of christ, and i'm also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed ( 1 peter 5:1): He’ll promote you at the right time. It does not matter whether people are dead or alive when jesus returns.

1 peter 5 (king james version) If we would heed the command of 1 peter 5:6 and truly humble ourselves under the mighty hand of god, we would have far fewer cares to. Humble yourselves, therefore, under god’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

But for what follows, and which does not so much design the reason of the preaching of it, as the event consequential upon it. He depresses the proud, and exalts the humble. 2 feed the flock of god which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly;

( b) because he cares for you.

This command in 1 peter 5:6 occurs in a context where leaders are warned against lording it over the flock and where young men are exhorted to submit themselves to elders and all are challenged to clothe themselves with humility. Humble yourselves, therefore, under god's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 peter 5:6, esv: For the mighty hand of god, comp.

1 the elders which are among you i exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: In his closing remarks, he writes to them briefly, sending them greetings from babylon and tells them to greet one another with kisses of love. Your enemy the devil prowls.

So that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
