Some have pointed to jesus' words here as a reason to never take up arms in conflict. The disciples then produced two swords, one of which was in peter's possession.
Hours later, when peter uses a sword to try to protect jesus, jesus rebukes him.
Jesus rebukes peter sword. Jesus rebuked peter for striking with the sword, because peter was acting in defense of jesus. He’s planning to go all the way “to prison and to death” with. Then said jesus to him, put up again your sword into his place:
The sword that peter used represents rebellion against the will of god. When jesus is betrayed and arrested, peter impulsively strikes with his sword to try to protect him. ‘and he was numbered with the transgressors.’ for what is written about me has its fulfillment.

Something that will throw them all off of their rockers. When jesus rebuked peter, it wasn't just because jesus needed to suffer and die. Like liked by 1 person
In luke 22:36, jesus tells the disciples to take a sword when they go out to spread the gospel. He encouraged them to take a purse, a bag, and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one (luke 22:36). At first glance it might seem so:
Ad gospel of jesus christ foundation. Jesus, peter, and the sword. But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack.
Jesus immediately rebukes peter, saying “those who take up the sword will perish by the sword,” and he proceeds to use his miraculous power to restore the servant’s ear rather than to annihilate those arrayed against him (mt. For all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. So it appears that while the community of jesus’ followers can adopt basic protections and precautions, when it encounters an overwhelming force bent on doing harm, its response must not be to fight to the last one standing, but to be willing to accept suffering as the means of continuing its witness.
Peter, along with some interpreters, misunderstood jesus’s previous command to buy a sword. Jesus rebukes him and heals the man he injured, in order to prevent a bloodbath. The man who jesus had called satan because he did not want his lord to die on a cross and who had forgotten he said he would rise again.
Jesus sees this and rebukes the man, telling him that everyone who is taking up a sword will die by one. He who lives by the sword. Peter should have known that jesus would be arrested and that he would willingly surrender to his enemies even if the enemy was laying on the ground.

Jesus rebukes peter for trying to use violence to stop what is meant by god to happen in this moment. (the servant's name was malchus. What should peter have done?
So jesus said to peter, “put your sword into its sheath; The disciples argue over which of them is the greatest and jesus says that true greatness comes in weakness, vulnerability, and service. 10 then simon peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear.
Jesus rebuked peter for striking with the sword, because peter was acting in defense of jesus. That is reading too much into this event. He followed up his rebuke with a categorical statement about swords (guns) and violence:
Indeed, peter drew his sword and struck a blow for jesus. This does not reflect on a mortal person or follow defending themselves or other innocent life. To me, this captures the chaos of the scene at the edge of the garden.
Jesus then goes on to rebuke the disciple further by saying that had he wanted protection at that moment, he would have called upon his many celestial warriors to defend him. For i tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me: Perceive ye not yet, neither understand?
